Welcome back to “real” books!
Dauphin County has entered the yellow phase, and this means you can begin enjoying physical books and other items with Curbside Pickup at four library locations starting June 5. We chose these four locations carefully to allow all Dauphin County residents some access to a library not too far from their homes and workplaces. The remaining libraries will begin operating again once the reopening plan has been tested and we have the necessary staff and supplies to meet demand there safely. Because so many in our community will likely need to perform tasks requiring a computer, such as job searching, completing online educational assignments, and applying for assistance, limited access to public computers will also be available June 5 at open locations.
Safe service to you is our number one priority. Many of you have already asked how you can help. You do so by sharing with us your patience, protection, and understanding as we commit to sharing the same with you. Maintaining cleaning protocols, appropriately quarantining returned items, and responding to the long pent-up demand for books all take time. There may be a longer wait than usual for items you’re seeking, so your patience is appreciated. For your protection and that of your loved ones and library staff, we’ll need you to wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines when borrowing items and using computers. And we ask your understanding in advance—this new way of operating is likely going to mean some missteps. But mutual kindness and understanding will carry the day.
These are challenging times, and there is strength in connection as we navigate them. You are welcome here, however you want to reach out—curbside, online, or by phone. And we eagerly look forward to the day when we can announce all locations and services are fully restored.
Until then, stay safe and be well. We’ll see you at the curb (or computer)!
