HARRISBURG, Pa. — From June 1 until August 30 readers of all ages are invited to participate in The Library’s “On Your Mark, Get Set… Read!” Summer Reading Club. Again this year, participants can explore this reading club by going to dcls.org or visiting their local library to register. Make sure you also pick up a Summer Reading Club Guide or visit dcls.org to learn about all the fun planned at The Library this summer.

All children who register for Summer Reading Club will receive a free “On Your Mark, Get Set… Read!” temporary tattoo or sticker. After reading a total of 10 hours throughout the summer, children up to age 12 can turn in their log for a free book and a chance to win their very own Kindle Fire Kids Edition. After reading 5 hours, children can bring their log to the Library to receive an “Explore your Community” bag filled with free coupons from local organizations and businesses.

Teens and adults ages 13 and up are also eligible to participate in the “On Your Mark, Get Set… Read!” Summer Reading Club. Teens and adults who register for Summer Reading Club online or in The Library will receive a free Summer Reading Club Lanyard. Teens who complete a log with eight books or other items from The Library will receive a choice of a prize book or earbuds. Adults who complete a log will receive a Summer Reading Club Lunch Cooler. A completed log will earn the participant an entry into a random prize drawing for local gift cards. In addition, one Kindle Fire will be given away as the grand prize at each of The Library’s locations.

There are three fun ways for children to earn their ticket to the Summer Reading Club Fun Festival on August 27 at Fort Hunter. Completed reading logs will earn children a completion certificate that serves as their ticket to the Summer Reading Fun Festival. Participants can also attend six Summer Reading Club Programs or check out books six times during the summer to complete their Summer Reading Club Card. A completed Club Card also serves as a ticket to the Summer Reading Fun Festival. And finally, school-aged children can complete the online decathlon adventure at dcls.org/adventure and print out the Decathlon Certificate to present at the Festival for entry.

Free events for all ages will be the highlight of the summer’s festivities: get ready to be amazed by Magical Nick, watch an “Animal Olympics” competition featuring scaly critters from the Forgotten Friend Reptile Sanctuary, the City Islanders will help kids work on their soccer skills at “Soccer Shots,” teens can learn the basics of improvisational theater at Improv 101 or catch a superhero movie at “Comic Book to Movie,” and adults can meet Phillies catcher Darren Daulton or learn about sports memorabilia at Michael Osacky’s appraisal event. These are just some of the many programs that will be held at various libraries throughout the summer. Go to dcls.org to find a complete listing of the summer’s events or register for Summer Reading Club and get the Summer Reading Club Guide with all the details.
