    Public Services Assistants

    SUMMARY: Performs customer services, uses computer software for circulation of materials, and offers basic reference service. Interacts courteously with the public in person and by telephone; opens or closes the building.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. Training or experience with computer keyboarding and basic office software. One year experience dealing with the public. Ability to lift 30 lbs. unassisted to place materials on high and low shelves. Ability to reach and bend to place books on shelves, kneeling and sitting on the floor during tasks.

    RATE OF PAY: $9.55 per hour

    SCHEDULE: There is a Full Time and 2 Part Time/Year positions. 

    The Full Time position has the schedule of Sundays 9:00 am-5:15 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 10:00 am-6:00 pm and Thursday 1:00 pm to 9:15 pm.  

    The first Part Time position has the schedule of Tuesday and Wednesday 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am- 5:00 pm. 

    The second Part Time position has the schedule of Tuesday and Thursday 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm, Friday 10:00 am - 2:00 pm and Saturday 12:00 pm- 5:00 pm.  Open positions are currently available at the East Shore Area Library.

    Born To Read Specialist

    SUMMARY: Specializes in the Born To Read program, which includes planning, implementing, presenting, tracking, marketing and evaluating the program in conjunction with various departments.  Presents the program to babies and adults in the library and in an outreach environment.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BA or BS degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.  Knowledge of and/or courses in children’s literature, child development, and educational methods.  Proficient in using computers, laptops, tablets, etc. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred. One year experience in working with children and education.  Requires a valid driver’s license for travel to various libraries and community locations on a frequent basis, professional customer service and communication skills, ability to move library materials within and between locations, ability to retrieve and place books on shelves, sufficient mobility to perform programming for children.

    RATE OF PAY: $16.00 per hour

    SCHEDULE: The schedule will include days, evenings and weekends to be determined upon the needs of programming and outreach activities.
