DAUPHIN COUNTY was created on March 4, 1785, from parts of Lancaster County and named in honor of Louis, the Dauphin of France. Parts of Dauphin and Lancaster Counties were separated into Lebanon County on February 16, 1813.The county seat is Harrisburg, which is also the State Capital of Pennsylvania.
