space On February 1, Governor Tom Ridge visited Kline Branch Library to announce his new budget initiative for state library funding. The Governor and First Lady also visted with second grade students from the Camp Curtin Elementary School.
 

 
9:45 AM, February 01, 2001:
A lonely gubernatorial podium awaits the arrival of Governor Ridge. Within 15 minutes, the scene is somewhat less empty.

 
DCLS Director Rich Bowra opens the event with a few brief remarks about the new Kline Branch, and then introuduces Governor and Mrs. Ridge.

 
The First Lady reads to the students of Camp Curtin Elementary School.

 
And then the Governor takes a turn.

 
Then, the students read to the Governor and First Lady.

 
The Governor announces his plan for increased funding for libraries, stressing the importance of literacy for all ages. Read the press release here.

 
First Lady Michele Ridge adds her thoughts on strengthening family bonds through parents reading to children.

 
The program ends with the Ridges donating a family favorite storybook to the KB collection. Director Rich Bowra and Branch Manager Stephanie Liva accept on behalf the DCLS.
