Borrowing Items from DCLS

You may renew most DCLS materials by coming to or calling any branch on or before the due date. If the item has been requested by another patron, it cannot be renewed and you will be asked to return it.
 
Borrowed items may be returned to any branch in the DCLS system. Videotapes and CD-ROMs may not be returned in library bookdrops.
 
Most library materials may be borrowed for 28 days and renewed once, unless there is a hold on the item. The following items may be borrowed for 14 days:
  • New adult fiction (including large print)
  • Instructional videos
  • Encyclopedias (not all encyclopedias circulate)
  • Magazines
  • CD-Roms (no renewals, limit 2 per patron)


DCLS Fines & Fees

Video/DVD Loans
• $2.00 for entertainment video 7 day loan.
• $2.00 for educational video 14 day loan.

Internet and Computer Printouts
• .20¢ cents per black and white page.
• .50¢ cents per color page.

Overdue Fines
• Adult and juvenile items: .25¢ cents a day.
• Video, DVD, CD-ROM, Interlibrary Loan: $1.50 a day.
• Card blocked from further use: if more than $5.00 in fines and fees.
• Maximum fine per item: $20.00 or 90% of cost, whichever is less.
• Credit Plus accounts: $25.00 fee for delinquent accounts sent to credit agency.

Interlibrary Loan

• If you order items from a non-District library but do not check them out: $3.00/item.
