The proposed William H. & Marion C. Alexander Family Library will provide a hub for the community on the footprint of the former National Hotel. The building has been designed to be compatible with the existing streetscape, with a façade suggestive of the original hotel, where it will remain in the heart of the Hummelstown community.

Key Features of the building include the following:
- space for expanded collections and ease of access for library users
- dedicated children’s area, with six computer terminals and capacity for more than 15,000 books
- library program/community meeting room
- area specific for teens, with seating for 10, five computer terminals, 1,700 volumes plus current periodicals
- easy accessibility and adequate parking for users from all points
- adult reading and study area, with seating for 18, capacity for more than 16,000 volumes, and 10 computer terminals

adequate restroom facilities

- ADA-required accessibility to all citizens
- improved lighting and overall ambience, including adequate space for checking out items
- adequate work space to improve public service
- outdoor plaza area.
