HARRISBURG, Pa.— From June 1 until August 31 readers of all ages are invited to participate in The Library’s “Dig Into Reading” 2013 Summer Reading Club. Again this year, participants can explore this fun reading club online by going to dcls.org to register from home or in the library. After reading a total of 10 hours, throughout the summer, children up to age 12 can turn in their log for a free book from August 1 through September 14.
Teens and adults aged 13 and up are also eligible to participate in the “Dig Into Reading” 2013 Summer Reading Club where they are encouraged to read as much as they want.
Each book read and each optional review written will earn the participant one entry into a random prize drawing. Not everyone will win, so the more books read and the more reviews written the better chance participants have of winning the gift card prizes that are available. Join the celebration June 1 by registering online at dcls.org or by going to The Library.
This year there are two ways for children to have fun while they earn their way to joining other club participants at a Dream Big Festival at the end of the summer. Completed reading logs will earn children a completion certificate that will serve as their ticket to the summer –end Dream Big Festival. Participants can also attend six Summer Reading Club Programs or check out books six times during the summer to complete their Summer Reading Club Card. A completed Club Card will also serve as their ticket to the summer-end Dream Big Festival. For more details register for the “Dream Big: Read” Summer Reading Club and get your Summer Reading Club Guide to all of the fun at The Library this summer.
Free events for children of all ages will highlight the summer festivities: Adam Swartz Puppetry will present “Alice and Jimmy’s Epic Rock Dream,” Hampstead Stage Company will provide presentations of “Pinocchio” and “Wizard of Oz” and Zoo America will bring nighttime creatures to the library as part of “Creatures of the Night” and “Whoooo Are the Owls?” These are just some of the children’s programs that will be held at various DCLS libraries throughout the summer. Go to dcls.org to find a complete listing of the summer’s events or register for Summer Reading Club and get your Summer Reading Club Guide with all the details.
